109 of 366 – Batman (1989): Jack Napier / The Joker

You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?

It was with a lot of consideration that the 89 Joker was chosen.

Having to take into account which film would end up being represented by Batman himself and also picking which Joker I was going to draw. I was extremely tempted by the original Cesar Romero and of course the amazing performance of Heath Ledger.

But Jack Nicholson’s Joker will always be my personal favourite.

Right place at the right time I guess. I was the perfect age for when Batman 89 came out, I was just getting into comics on the eve of Bat mania and sitting in that cinema watching the Batwing pause for that beat in front of the moon was breathtaking.

Nicholson LOVED playing the Joker, he still loves the role. Here’s an actor as huge as Jack Nicholson who just revelled in the role. It was crazy but perfect.
