These mini warm-up sketches are an absolute joy and great quieter of the mind as I tend to do them over the breakfast table with SG1 on in the background. I specifically don’t seek out reference material for them because I just want them to be natural free form expressions so the hair and costume […]
This was actually yesterday’s warm-up scribble, this morning. I do have to say that O’Neill probably isn’t my favourite character, I’m not sure what it is, I think his “acting dumb” routine. Sometimes it just rubs me the wrong way, I know that’s the schtick but it doesn’t endear the character to me. All […]
There was a very brief moment where I confused Lucius with Draco and fortunately the client reminded that they’d asked for the senior Malfoy. Not having done a lot of Harry Potter work in the past I’m quite enjoying discovering the costumes and interpreting them as best I can for my purposes. It’s such a […]
I like to kick off my day of drawing doing some freehand character scribbles such as Daniel here (and Teal’c before him). It’s good to draw characters that I’m not tasked with or away from the Trek franchise. Like a palate cleanser for drawing. Plus I’m loving these characters so much so it’s a joy […]
I honestly laughed out loud when I read this commission request, I love drawing Jurassic Park stuff but I’ve never drawn Dr Malcolm in THAT pose. So very happy to have someone request it! I LOVE how natural it seems in the movie but the moment you think about it the pose is so ridiculous. […]
So it’s head down producing the wonderful requests coming in from the commission drive (which is still happening so don’t be shy). I’ve not had the chance to do a lot from the Harry Potter universe so I’m very happy to be given the opportunity to play with some of the characters. I was given […]
I’m really surprised that no one has tried to revive SeaQuest DSV or do a movie or something, I know it probably wasn’t much of a money spinner at the time but it’s a solid concept. Always a joy to revisit the SeaQuest universe for a commission piece though!
Prior to this commission request coming across my desk I had no idea what FishCenter Live was and to be honest I’m not 100% sure I know what it is now LOL. But researching this “character” was a fun exercise and the client was happy so I’m more than happy.
Stargate SG1 has become a faithful companion during my days of scribbling, there’s a consistent comfort to the show and I appreciate the tone of the show. It’s deals with some dark concepts but manages to keep the tone light and well balanced. It’s reassuring and I’m really loving the characters.
Digging through my boxes I discovered a few Star Wars illustrations that I did back in 2015. When I have time again I might revisit them because I’m really quite fond of how they came out. They’d probably make cool stickers.
