Ex Machina was a real find for me. I had heard some buzz about it but didn’t get a chance to see it in the cinema. Then when we finally got to see it it was very buzz-worthy and if you’ve not seen it I would highly recommend seeking it out. It’s worth it if only for the ending!
I saw one of the VFX people react to special effects talking about AVA and how it was cleverly designed to appear as life-like as possible by using texture and only animated sections that lend themselves well to the process.
For me, I wasn’t quite sure how to approach this and I was wondering how I’d go capturing all Ava’s translucent parts in watercolour but I like the challenge and to be honest, this is so much better than what I would have done for X-Men Origins Wolverine!
This is part of the 366 Characters from 366 Films project running throughout 2020. The original illustrations go on sale over on the Etsy store the same day (around 9:00 am Brisbane time) and are available until someone snaps it up.
