Day 67 – Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997): Dr Evil (Douglas “Dougie” Powers)

“Why must I be surrounded by frickin’ idiots?!”

Is it stealing the show if the character is played by the same actor? I do think that Dr Evil is a standout character in the Austin Powers franchise and possibly funnier than Austin. Probably a little more straightforward to draw than loudly dressed Austin but then I still have Goldmember to go so one last chance for him to be featured.

There are of course no shortage of quotable characters in this film and I remember seeing it in the cinema before the Austin Powers craze took off. If I remember correctly it may have had more life on home video rather than the box office.

I wonder if he’ll ever do a fourth film. An older Powers coming out of retirement and working with an older Dr Evil combating some new villain.

This is part of the 366 Characters from 366 Films project running throughout 2020. The original illustrations go on sale over on the Lee Draws Stuff store the same day (around 9:00 am Brisbane time) and are available until someone snaps it up.
