I drew our favourite astromech for a “how to” tutorial over on Patreon. If you not a supporter over there yet come on over, it’s only $1 a month and you get access to my daily journal and exclusive previews of tutorials like this one before the rest of the world.
I’m aiming at 100 patrons after which I’ll be getting a tattoo of the Enterprise on my arm!
Now that I’m more or less settled in to my routine for the Star Trek 365 I’m trying to push myself to continue drawing other stuff. To eas myself into that I turned to my Patreon followers who have been giving me some ideas of characters they’d like to see etc.
Kelli asked for Vice Admiral Holdo whom I had no idea who she was as at the time I hadn’t seen The Last Jedi. Since then of course I’ve seen the film and to be fair I’m not really objective when it comes to Laura Dern, I’ll love her in pretty much anything. She has an amazing look as Vice Admiral Holdo so it was a joy to knock out a quick pencil scribble of her character.
I do think she was kind of wasted in the film but then this is a whole conversation I have no interest in starting lol.
The commission request was for Han and Chewie from any of the films “as long as they are cool bros” which I love as an instruction! So I thought of instead of them on a planet somewhere or even in the cockpit I’d have them just hanging out at “home”.
The thing that took me the longest was Han Solo’s hair LOL.
It’s always nice to visit the “Wars” star universe 😉
Ewan McGregor’s performance as the younger Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the few standouts from the Star Wars prequel and the idea of a gritty western style Star Wars film featuring him would be kick arse.
Rumours came out the other day that Disney is ready to commit to an Obi-Wan spin off film and seriously it seems like a slam dunk to get McGregor involved as he’s stated in the past his willingness to do it.
Go back to its Akira Kurosawa roots and do something gritty and awesome.
It’s no secret I became jaded with the commercialism of Star Wars years ago and nothing they’ve released has really been worthy of elevating itself above that but this has all kinds of potential to it and there’s no real reason for them not to do something interesting – it’s already money in the bank for them. Slap the logo on oranges and they sell!
