What can I say, the Constitution Class Refit is my first love. As much as I loved the original series of Star Trek I really got hooked by the films and therefore the refit movie model.
It’s a beautiful design, it takes the original Enterprise and revamped it completely for the big screen without losing the ship’s essence. It even had an on screen explanation why it looks so different.
I hate drawing the ships, they are so technical and I feel I struggle with them but I do love getting to know the design better, more intimately than you get just by looking at it in pictures. I remember doing one of the models and I just loved that it drew my attention to small details that washed over me previously.
Drawing a starship is a little like that experience because you have to really examine it, especially in my style of drawing, you have to work out what it is that defines the ship and retain that whilst dropping other details.
This is actually part of a seven part commission series so I’m going to be getting to know ALL the Enterprise’s quite well over the coming month or so.
This is part of the 30 Day Star Trek Challenge – check out the details here.
